Research Assistant – Job Description

Position Summary:

Research assistant needed for help with project on multimedia Apps for speech and language. This App is targeted to assess speech and language skills for subjects that include: typically developing children, Down Syndrome, children and adults with ASD, healthy aging adults, and mild cognitive impairment. Work to support a team consisting of speech language pathologists, programmers, recruitment coordinators, graphic designers, voice talents and academic faculty. While a research assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Recruit and identify potential research subjects in accordance with study objectives and parameters, as appropriate to the individual position
  • Develop or assist in the development of scheduling test sessions by coordinating with recruitment coordinator. Possibly contacting potential subjects to answer questions, and to arrange follow-up test sessions
  • Track/ensure study participants informed consent is complete
  • Conduct and record face-to-face test sessions with subjects, in accordance with predetermined protocol, data collection procedures and documentation standards
  • Review and edit data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information; follow up with subjects to resolve problems or clarify data collected
  • As appropriate to the specified position, data entry, code and verify data in accordance with specified research protocol and coding procedures and enter data into a computer database and/or spreadsheet application for subsequent analysis
  • Clerical duties.
  • Attend meetings, as specified


  • Requires a BS or BA degree in a related field
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a
    particular field.
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
    Work under immediate supervision.
